While the NASA fuel cells were space hardened, built on a no-cost-spared basis, optimized for the highest performance, durability and reliability, the same fuel cells in the Astris version use inexpensive, down to earth materials. Built mostly from carbon and plastic, they use only small quantities of metal parts. They achieve good performance without the use of platinum and other exotic materials. Astris has built fuel cells and fuel cell power generators spanning the range of power from fraction of a kilowatt to several kilowatts. Astris products include fuel cells for experimentation and classroom demonstration, and for use in portable and emergency power, integrated energy systems, and in specialty transportation such as golf cars or toy automobiles. |
